UW–Madison celebrates a century of Homecoming
Bucky Badger is among those celebrating 100 years of Homecoming at the University of Wisconsin–Madison to the tune of “Bucky Badger’s 100 Greatest Hits,” this year’s Homecoming theme.
Prior to the Homecoming game on Oct. 15, the UW–Madison community is invited to participate in a weeklong lineup of chart-topping events and programs headlined by the parade through downtown Madison at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14.
New this year, “The On Wisconsin Society” will honor undergraduate students for notable achievements on campus and in the community. Honorees will be recognized for their accomplishments throughout Homecoming week and at Camp Randall on Saturday.
“The On Wisconsin Society demonstrates that students at UW–Madison are capable of some spectacular things,” Wisconsin Alumni Association President Paula Bonner said. “Fellow students and alumni everywhere can be proud of this great generation of Badgers.”
The UW Homecoming committee and the Wisconsin Alumni Association encourage alumni and students to participate in Homecoming festivities which begin Oct. 7 and run through the Badger football game against Indiana on Oct. 15.
Homecoming activities for students kick off at noon on Friday, Oct. 7, on Lake Street and the Memorial Union Terrace, where UW–Madison students can enjoy free Qdoba cuisine and live entertainment while watching the cardboard Barge Races on Lake Mendota.
Community festivities begin with the Literacy Network Homecoming Run/Walk at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9. Registration is $30 per adult and $20 per UW student prior to Oct. 3 and includes refreshments. The Kids Fun Run with Bucky precedes the run/walk and starts at 9:45 a.m.
The week concludes on Saturday, Oct. 15, with the Wisconsin Alumni Association’s Badger Huddle pregame tailgate at the UW Field House before the Badgers take on Big Ten foe Indiana.
