UW Conference To Explore Role of Arts in Education

Meaningful roles for the arts in education will be the focus of a conference April 24 and 25 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

“Releasing Our Artistic and Educational Imaginations” will feature Maxine Greene, author of Releasing the Imagination: Essays on Education, the Arts and Social Change. Greene, professor emerita at Columbia University, will consider how the arts factor into our poetic and social educational imaginations. She will speak April 24 at 10 a.m.

On April 24 at 11 a.m., UW–Madison faculty in art education, dance education, drama education, music education, language arts and educational communication technology will combine discussion and performance to explore roles the arts might play in educational imagination and practice. Audience and conference participants will reflect on the sessions April 25 starting at 9 a.m.
