August 26, 2011 By John Lucas

UW–Madison students who may be affected by Hurricane Irene are encouraged to call the Division of Student Life for assistance with any academic and student life issues that may arise.

“We’re concerned for all of our East Coast students here in Wisconsin as well as their families and friends back home,” says Dean of Students Lori Berquam.”Our thoughts are with you and your families and we want to do everything we can to make your life easier.”

If you are a UW–Madison student in of need assistance with late arrival, class absence accommodations, crisis loans, books or any other help, call the Division of Student Life at (608) 263-5700 and ask for the Dean On Call, or email dean@studentlife.wisc.edu.

Berquam is making an effort to email all students from the Eastern Seaboard who might be impacted to tell them to be sure to keep in touch with their families and develop alternative methods of contact in case communication lines go down.

“Overall, we don’t want students to be stressed out about the start of classes here in Madison,” she adds. “Everything will be waiting for you when you arrive. Travel safely and let us know if you need help.”

If you are a student in need of counseling or crisis support as a result of this incident or any other situation, call University Health Services Counseling and Consultation Services at (608) 265-5600 or drop-in between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
