Badgers vote to carry on tradition with The Red Shirt, fourth edition
Alumni, students, fans and friends of the University of Wisconsin–Madison cast nearly 7,000 votes to select a spirited design for the next The Red Shirt, now in its fourth edition.
Bucky Badger returns to help wearers show their UW–Madison pride with the new edition of the limited-edition T-shirt from the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA), which developed the collectible shirt to help fund scholarships and programming for alumni and students.
“Badgers tell us they love The Red Shirt as a fun, new tradition that makes it easy and meaningful to give back to campus,” says Paula Bonner, WAA’s president and CEO. “Alumni, students and Badger fans are wearing The Red Shirt everywhere — from State Street to Bascom Hill, to Pasadena and back again. And when they do, they’re supporting student scholarships in style.”
Proceeds from sales of The Red Shirt directly benefit students through UW–Madison’s Great People Scholarship. The program’s success to date made it possible for WAA to present UW–Madison with a $250,000 gift to this need-based scholarship fund. WAA’s gift of $25,000 per year for five years will be matched with funds from the UW Foundation.
These proceeds contribute to the nearly $700,000 already awarded by WAA every year through scholarship programs at the corporate level and through alumni chapters around the world.
The first and second editions of The Red Shirt have been officially retired, and the third edition will join them on the wall of fame when the fourth edition goes on sale in August.
The Red Shirt will be available in August at http://uwalumni.com/TheRedShirt.
Founded in 1861, WAA offers UW alumni and friends a wide variety of services, including the award-winning On Wisconsin and Badger Insider magazines, career services, student programming, international travel opportunities and lifelong learning events.
