Reminder: Vote in Tuesday’s general election

April 4, 2011

Tuesday, April 5, is Election Day. Wisconsin voters will have the chance to make their voices heard in several important state, county and local races.

At issue are races that will decide Madison’s mayor, key campus-area alders, Dane County’s executive and a state Supreme Court justice.

“Do your part to participate in the civic process by learning about the candidates and voting on Tuesday,” says Dean of Student Lori Berquam.

It is important to note that a proposed voter ID bill that would require additional voter identification has not been enacted and is not in effect for Tuesday’s election.

Most UW–Madison students who are U.S. citizens, will be 18 years of age on or before Election Day, and have been a resident of Wisconsin for at least 10 days prior to registering are eligible to vote.

You may register to vote at your polling place on Election Day. Students who have moved since they originally registered need to re-register.

If you plan to register in person at your polling place on Election Day, proof of residence is required to register and is important to bring to the polls.

For students in University Housing, a UW–Madison ID is acceptable. Registering to vote has no impact on a student’s insurance, financial aid or student status.

For complete information about registration, polling places and voting, call the Madison city clerk at 266-4601 or visit http://www.uc.wisc.edu/vote.

If you live off campus, log on to the city of Madison’s listing of polling locations and type in your address to find your polling place:
