Richard Davis To Conduct 4th Annual Bass Conference
An irresistible invitation, specifically, “Let’s Talk Bass,” has been issued to young musicians from pre-school (the youngest participant is 3 years old) through senior high. Internationally recognized jazz bassist Richard Davis, professor of music, will conduct the fourth annual bass conference for young people March 28 and 29.
Sponsored by the Richard Davis Foundation for Young Bassists, Inc., the event will feature workshops on the fundamentals of technique, musicianship, orchestra studies, a class for teachers, jazz and individual coaching and more.
A public concert will take place March 28 at 8 p.m.. Tickets, $5 adults/$3 children, will be available at the door. A student concert will be offered free on March 29 at 8 p.m. Both concerts will be held in the St. Joseph Chapel on the Edgewood campus.
Conference faculty, drawn from the ranks of professional bassists, will include Davis, John Clayton (Jimmy Johnson Band), Eva Brauninger (Des Moines Symphony principal bassist), Virginia Dixon (professor, Wheaton College), Larry Hutchinson (Detroit Symphony) and others.
