Greek women help high-schoolers find their perfect prom dresses

The Panhellenic Association at the University of Wisconsin–Madison will co-host the seventh annual All Dressed Up with the Junior League of Madison from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at Madison Area Technical College.

All Dressed Up provides hundreds of girls in the Madison area with the opportunity to find the perfect prom dress and accessories. The program collects, cleans and gives away gently used dresses to high-school girls.

The Panhellenic Association will provide volunteers from UW–Madison sororities and transportation for these women to and from the event. A shuttle will run from the Wisconsin Union to MATC’s Truax campus throughout the day.

The Greek volunteers will greet and entertain the girls. They will also help them pick out their dream dress and accessories.

“It’s a great experience. There’s a camaraderie that develops; you get to learn about their life and you’re happy because they’re happy. You’re really benefiting people. It’s a lot of fun, and who doesn’t love shopping?” says Julia Griffith, former All Dressed Up volunteer.

The doors for All Dressed Up open at 6 a.m. Many prom-goers wait in line hours before this highly anticipated event starts.

During the past few months, the Panhellenic Association has collected dresses and jewelry from UW–Madison sorority women to donate to All Dressed Up. Greeks have contributed more than 200 dresses and accessories.

“This event is a wonderful opportunity for the Greek women on our campus to give back to the Madison community,” says Kari Wolter, Panhellenic Association vice president of civic engagement and All Dressed Up project coordinator.
