Panel To Discuss Role of Internet in Society

Are we reshaping the world with each e-mail message we send and with every web page we access? Is the Internet going to transform society into a modern Athens? Will the Internet form a more informed public and a truly democratic citizenry?

Four speakers from UW–Madison and the greater Madison community will discuss such questions March 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the State Historical Society Auditorium. “The Internet: A Revolution in the Making” is a panel discussion created by the UW–Madison History Organization and co-sponsored by the Society of Professional Journalists, Pi Sigma Alpha, the Pre Law Society and the State Historical Society.

Speakers for the event include political science professor David Canon, intellectual property attorney Gina Carter from La Follette & Sinykin in Madison, history professor Colleen Dunlavy, and journalism professor Steven Vaughn. The speakers will each present a short lecture drawing on their respective backgrounds and areas of expertise. A discussion period will follow.
