Chancellor Martin reacts to State of the State address
University of Wisconsin–Madison Chancellor Biddy Martin attended Gov. Scott Walker’s State of the State address Tuesday night. Her statement follows:
“The governor’s speech made it clear that we face an extraordinarily challenging economic situation, one that is shared across states. We will work closely with state policymakers to ensure that the university is in a position to contribute to the state’s economic recovery. UW–Madison will continue to play a leading role in the education of our young people, in scholarship and discovery, in community service, in technology development, and job creation.
“I will continue to work with lawmakers and the governor on efforts to achieve administrative flexibilities for the university that will make us more effective and better able to preserve the quality of the university, its degrees, and its role in the economy.
“I am proud of our employees’ commitment to educating students, making pioneering discoveries, and reaching out to the public in the great tradition of the Wisconsin Idea. Their talent and dedication are more important now than ever.
“The uncertainty we face is difficult for our employees. I will continue to keep UW–Madison faculty, staff and students informed and updated as the governor advances the budget to the state.”
