UW-Madison students and parents ready to experience Madison together

November 10, 2010

More than 1,600 University of Wisconsin–Madison students and their parents are about to kick off a weekend of Badger family bonding at Parents’ Weekend Friday-Sunday, Nov. 12-14.

The popular annual tradition invites parents and their UW students to attend special Friday “classes” to hear about hot topics from UW faculty, ask questions during a special Q&A session with a panel from the Office of the Chancellor and cheer for the Badgers at Camp Randall.

“This is a great chance for parents to connect with their students and experience life on campus together,” says Jeff Wendorf ’82, WAA vice president of programs and outreach. “The weekend is filled with many opportunities for families to bond and grow together as Badgers.”

New to this year’s program is the opportunity for participants to attend on- and off-campus events in addition to regularly scheduled activities, including a UW hockey game, Wisconsin Singers concert, Chazen Musem of Art tour and more.

Participants are also invited to a fun show of support for a local Madison charity by participating in the Wisconsin Alumni Student Board’s Bare It All for Charity 5K Run/Walk. Now in its second year, this fun run invites participants to remove layers of clothing to donate to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul before walking or running through campus.

Through WAA’s connection with Downtown Madison Inc., State Street and Madison-area businesses sponsoring the weekend have donated special door prizes to be given away throughout the weekend. Downtown businesses will also greet students and parents with welcome signs in their windows.
