Spring Enrollment Slightly Up
Preliminary spring semester enrollment figures at the University of Wisconsin–Madison show a modest increase over last year. According to the UW–Madison Office of the Registrar, the 1997 second semester enrollment is 35, 757. That compares with 35,096 in January 1996.
“The number of students registered for the second semester suggests that this will be a normal spring term, insofar as enrollments are concerned,” says Tom L.W. Johnson, UW–Madison executive associate registrar.
Johnson say it appears that the university’s final enrollment will match expectations, “due to the data presently available and past registration patterns. Undergraduates tend to register as early as the system will allow. Special students could only begin registering January 16. Graduate students are registering now,” he says.
Students may register without special permission through Jan. 31. The semester began Jan. 21. Its last day of classes will be May 9.
