“On, Wisconsin!” video contest winners announced
Four members of UW Hip Hop have won the grand prize in the university’s “On, Wisconsin!” YouTube video contest for their entry “On Wisconsin Remix Song.”
Now Rafael Casal, Andrew Thomas, James Gavins and Karl Iglesias will have to decide what to do with it.
The grand prize for best overall performance, sponsored by the Wisconsin Alumni Association (WAA) and University Communications, is two travel packages to the Wisconsin-UNLV football game in Las Vegas on Saturday, Sept. 4.
The contest was part of the 100th anniversary celebration of the university’s popular fight song. Here is a link to the winning video.
In the category of the entry from farthest away, the winner was student Joe Powell, who submitted “Badger Pride: The Other Side of the Atlantic.” Powell has been studying abroad in Spain this semester and noted with his entry that he wanted to spread Badger pride wherever he traveled. Powell’s video can be found here.
Chosen as the most creative submission was “Chinning Up for 100 Years of On Wisconsin,” featuring the Chinheads from UW Health Marketing and Public Affairs.
The Chinheads’ video can be viewed here.
In the category of largest group, the winners were the students from Barb Grisaffe’s and Tracy Mueller’s first- and second-grade class at Willow Bend Elementary School in Rolling Meadows, Ill.
The school has ties to UW–Madison. Classes there have each adopted a college to follow and learn about, and theirs chose UW–Madison. The goal is to instill in the children a belief that they will learn the skills needed to go to college. Willow Bend also happens to be the school that Badger quarterback Scott Tolzien attended and he has stayed in touch with the class.
The class’ video can be found here.
“We were thrilled to receive more than 50 submissions from around the country and other parts of the world, and we’re incredibly proud of the Badger spirit displayed throughout the video clips,” said university marketing director Tricia Dickinson. “We want to thank everyone who submitted an entry.”
Dickinson said all those who appeared in the entries will receive an “On, Wisconsin!” pin and The Red Shirt, a limited-edition T-shirt developed by the WAA. A portion of the proceeds from Red Shirt sales will help fund need-based financial aid through the UW Foundation’s Great People Scholarship Campaign. This year’s Red Shirt features the lyrics to “On, Wisconsin!”
