Madison police seek information in Langdon Street robbery

Madison Police are seeking information about a robbery of a UW–Madison student that occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, March 12.

The incident involved a female student walking home alone and unlocking her front door in the 100 block of Langdon Street. The suspect ran up to her and grabbed her purse.

She struggled with him and he sprayed her with pepper spray. He then fled with her purse and got into a white car and headed east on Langdon Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, weighing approximately 200 pounds and wearing a black baseball cap, white shirt and blue jeans.

Madison Police say the incident highlights a continued need for attention to personal safety.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to follow these safety guidelines:

–If you intend to drink, do so in moderation to avoid placing yourself in a position of increased risk.

–Do not resist a potential robbery. It is better to give up your belongings than be injured in a struggle.

–Carry a cell phone and dial 911 for help.

–Walk with a friend whenever possible.

–Be aware of places along your path of travel that could conceal a criminal (shrubbery, building recesses, etc.). Avoid or keep a distance from these areas whenever possible.

–Make sure someone knows when you leave and when to expect you back.

If you think someone is following you, cross the street. Head for a well-populated and well-lit area at night.
