Student remembered as passionate researcher

The family and friends of Jeffrey Matthew Slosarczyk are remembering him as an intelligent and diligent student, highly dedicated to his studies. The UW–Madison undergraduate chemistry student passed away in Madison on Feb. 5. Slosarczyk, a 23-year old senior, is survived by his family, including his siblings, Joseph Slosarczyk and Julie Hansbury, both UW–Madison alumni.

According to his family, he excelled in many academic areas and had a great enthusiasm for research, philosophy, hunting, fishing, baseball, motocross racing, reading and religion.

“His great passion for learning influenced so many others to model his devotion and dedication, and will leave a lasting impression,” says Hansbury. “Jeffrey will be missed by many students, friends, and of course, family members.”

He graduated from East Troy High School in 2005 and attended his first two years of college at UW-Milwaukee. During that time, he worked for Great Lakes Water Institute and was honored to be chosen to attend research conferences in Washington, D.C.

While on campus, Slosarczyk conducted research with the McMahon Group through the Department of Chemistry. He was an intern during the summer of 2008 for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in Charleston, S.C.

A memorial service and mass will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in East Troy, Wis. Anyone wishing to contact the family may call Legacy Funeral Home, 262-642-5057.
