Community invited to UW-Madison Homecoming events
The Madison-area community is invited to join the University of Wisconsin–Madison Spirit Squad, the UW Band, Bucky Badger and others as they make their way down State Street in the annual UW–Madison Homecoming parade at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16.
The parade will be followed by a fireworks display (weather permitting) and reception at Tripp Commons in Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St. Join UW–Madison alumni, fans and friends from 6-9 p.m. for family-friendly fare: root beer floats and Babcock ice cream; complimentary refreshments and snacks; entertainment by the UW Alumni Band, Bucky Badger and the UW–Madison cheerleaders; and VIP access to watch the fireworks display. Admission is $10 at the door; children under 12 are free.
The following downtown roads will be affected on Oct. 16 for the parade:
- The parade route will be closed from 5:30-8 p.m., or until the parade ends.
- Langdon Street will be closed from 3-8 p.m. for staging.
- The parade route includes the 600 block of Wisconsin Avenue, the 400 block of West Gilman Street, the 600 and 700 blocks of State Street, and the 500 and 600 blocks of Lake Street. More details are available at http://uwhomecoming.com.
Three Madison Metro bus routes will be re-routed for the event. Check the Metro bus schedule for changes. Business deliveries, residents and people with parking permits must show proof to be allowed on closed streets. The UW Homecoming Committee and Madison Police Department have the right to refuse entry to any streets during this time.
