Recent Sightings Recent sightings: Moon over Madison

Seen from the roof of the Memorial Library on the UW–Madison campus, a supermoon rises in the nighttime sky behind the “Wisconsin” statue atop the dome of the Wisconsin State Capitol Sept. 27. The term “supermoon” references a point when when the moon reaches its full phase at or near the satellite’s closest approach to Earth, and appears abnormally large and bright as a result. A rare lunar eclipse, or blood moon, occurred a few hours later.
