UW Commuter Solutions partners on Bike to Work Week
UW Commuter Solutions at the University of Wisconsin–Madison is encouraging the campus community to take part in Bike to Work Week — which runs from Saturday, June 6-Friday, June 12 — to support the two-wheeled alternative to driving alone.
The Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin sponsors the weeklong promotion, featuring events that include morning snacks, bike tune-ups and a week-ending celebration of cycling at Vilas Park. Visit this site for more information on all of the week’s events.
As part of the annual event, UW Commuter Solutions is sponsoring two afternoon events designed to be particularly convenient for members of the campus community.
From 1-5 p.m. on Monday, June 8, and Thursday, June 11, UW Commuter Solutions is conducting bike tips and tune-ups on campus. On June 8, the tune-ups will be done at the State Street Mall at Park Street, and on June 11, they will be held on the south lawn of the Animal Sciences Building at Linden Drive and Elm Street.
Campus experts on alternative transportation will be on hand to answer questions and distribute free coupon books.
“The big takeaway from the week is to use it as an opportunity to try biking to work, even if it’s just for one day,” says Molly Coughlin, marketing specialist for UW–Madison Transportation Services. “Many people need motivation to try that first bike commute, but once they do, they often find it more enjoyable than they first thought.”
