Ned Blackhawk, Department of History, was named one of 10 Emerging Scholars by the magazine “Diverse: Issues in Higher Education.”

William Brock, Vilas Research Professor of Economics, was awarded the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Amsterdam.

Robert Golden, School of Medicine and Public Health, has been appointed as the Robert Turell Professor in Medical Leadership.

Susan Hagness, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been appointed as the Phillip D. Reed Chair (#2) in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Shawn Kaeppler, Department of Agronomy, has been appointed as the William A. Rothermel-Bascom Professor in Agronomy.

Craig Kent, Department of Surgery, has been appointed as the Anthony R. Curreri Professor of Surgery.

Susan Lederer, Department of Medical History and Bioethics, has been appointed as the Robert Turell Professor in Medical History and Population Health.

Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Emeritus Thomas M. Lillesand has been named as the next honorary member of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, the highest award a member can receive; there are only 25 living honorary members at any given time.

Richard Lindroth, a professor of entomology, has been selected to receive the International Society of Chemical Ecology’s 2009 Silverstein-Simone Lecture Award, awarded annually to recognize outstanding current work at the frontiers of chemical ecology. Lindroth studies biochemical mechanisms that influence ecosystems, focusing on the interactions between plants and herbivorous insects and how they are affected by global climate change.

Mikko Lipasti, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been appointed as the Phillip D. Reed Chair (#1) in Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Manos Mavrikakis, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been appointed as the Paul A. Elfers Chair 2 in Chemical and Biological Engineering.

Giulio Tononi, Department of Psychiatry, has been appointed as the first David P. White Chair in Sleep Medicine.

The UW System Institute on Race and Ethnicity has awarded Campus Reading Seminar grants to the following individuals at UW-Madison: Monique Mills, Waisman Center; Heidi Lang, Social Education Office, Wisconsin Union; Matt Mitterko, Graduate School; and Eden Inoway-Ronnie, Office of the Provost.
