Used phone drive to aid domestic violence victims
If you own an inactive or outdated cell phone, delete your personal information and drop it off at one of a handful of campus collection sites before Friday, Oct. 31.
The used phone drive will help benefit local victims of dating and domestic violence throughout October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals who want to help victims but aren’t sure how to do that,” says Yolanda Garza, assistant dean in the Offices of the Dean of Students and chair of the University Subcommittee on Dating and Domestic Violence, which is organizing the effort.
Phones will be resold or recycled. The proceeds directly benefit Domestic Abuse Intervention Services (DAIS) of Madison.
Cell phone users are encouraged to call their provider for instructions on clearing the phone of personal information before donating. Chargers need not be donated with the phones. Tax receipts are also available on request.
For more details, call the Offices of the Dean of Students at (608) 263-5700, or e-mail ygarza@odos.wisc.edu.
