Madison police looking for info on new robbery (Updated with sketch)

The Madison Police Department is continuing to look for information leading to the arrest of individuals involved in a string of armed robberies on and around the UW–Madison campus.

The latest incident, involving a student and a staff member, took place at 1:39 a.m., Oct. 8, on the bike path near the 1100 block Spring Street.

The two victims were walking together on the bike path near Charter when they were confronted by the suspect. The suspect displayed a handgun, took money from one of the victims and fled. The second victim did not have any money on his person.

Neither was injured during the incident.

The perpetrator is described as an African American male, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 200 to 240 pounds. The suspect was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark blue pants and a black baseball cap with the letters “NY” in white. He is described as having “bulging eyes,” dark black bushy eyebrows and a very defined jaw line.

The perpetrator was seen getting into the passenger side of a dark blue Buick or Cadillac with tinted windows and chrome strips along both sides and on its rear bumper.

It is unknown whether this incident is tied to a recent string of robberies in which perpetrators typically try to steal wallets, purses, money and cell phones, according to Madison police.

In any case, the University of Wisconsin Police Department continues to advise the campus community to use SAFE Nighttime Services, walk with friends and to always give up valuables if confronted. It is always better not to resist and risk potential injury.
