UW Police: Don’t take rides from strangers
University of Wisconsin Police Department (UWPD) officials are reminding students, faculty and staff not to accept rides from people they do not know.
In the early morning hours of Monday, Sept. 3, a UWPD officer contacted a 29-year-old male in the 1200 block of Observatory Drive on the UW–Madison campus. Police say the man told them he was offering rides to students since the buses had stopped running.
The man is not wanted and has not committed a crime. However, police would like to remind the campus community about safety precautions and resources available. Vehicles associated with this individual are a white 1994 Mazda Navajo and a black 1988 Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Information on safety-related transportation services can be found at UW–Madison SAFEwalk, SAFEride, SAFEcab and SAFEbus.
For more information or if you have questions about safety at UW–Madison, please call UWPD at (608) 264-COPS or call 911 to report suspicious activity.
