Center to honor retiring director
The Center for the History of Print Culture in Modern America (CHPC) will honor its retiring director, James Danky, with a symposium on Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14.
“Alternative Print Culture: Social History and Libraries” will be held from 1–5 p.m. on April 13 and from 9 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on April 14 in the Wisconsin Historical Society Auditorium.
Danky will retire this year after 35 years as librarian at the Wisconsin Historical Society and 15 years as director of CHPC. The symposium will be held to celebrate Danky’s contributions to librarianship and print culture studies, especially his research and professional practice that has brought the alternative press to the attention of students, scholars and the general public. The event is free and open to the public.
CHPC, in conjunction with the Wisconsin Historical Society, plans to offer an annual short-term research fellowship titled “The James P. Danky Fellowship.” The goal is to use the award to provide one stipend of $1,000 per year to a scholar who wants to use the archival and library collections of the Wisconsin Historical Society, with a preference for a researcher in print culture and book history.
A reception will be held from 5–8 p.m. on April 13 in the Commons of the School of Library and Information Studies. To register for the reception, or to learn more about donating to the Danky Fellowship, visit A Symposium in Honor of James P. Danky Center for the History of Print Culture.
